Sculptures for Airport
Images of the sculptures installed at the Chennai Airport, along with the concept and research note that was developed before submitting the designs to the authorities. This document highlights the thought process, cultural inspirations, and creative approach that shaped the final artworks, ensuring they align with the airport’s identity and the spirit of the region.

Bhaatnatyam Dance
A classical dance form that originated in the temples of Tamil Nadu, approximately between 2nd cent. BCE and 2nd cent CE is celebrated the world over today. Aligned with the principles of Natya Shastra (A compilation of treaties on performing arts by Baharat Muni), the dance form is an expression of the divine or spiritual through the physical body. Stories of Gods and Goddesses are performed through aesthetic combination of eye movements, hand gestures and the whole body.

Emerald dove
Zoological name: Chalcophaps Indica
Tamil name: Panchavarna Pura
The emerald dove is the state bird of Tamil Nadu and is also commonly known as the green dove or green-winged pigeon. It is a medium-sized bird. It is usually found in pairs or small groups. They are mostly found in the tropical and subtropical parts of the Indian subcontinent.

Temple Jewellery
Temple jewellery originated around the 9th century in south India during the reign of the Chola and Pandya dynasties. Temple jewellery, crafted from precious metal donations made to temples, was designed exclusively for adorning deities and royalty. Many temples had dedicated jewellery workshops where skilled artisans meticulously created these intricate pieces.


Mullai Pot:
Pastoral Region
Multiple types of pots are popularly used in Mullai, the pastoral region of Tamil Nadu. These are made of terracotta and other mediums and they vary from tiny to huge sizes.
Since its an ancient culture of Tamil Nadu, that's why the pot was picked as a subject of sculpture.

Elephant and Banana Leaf
The religious and cultural life in many parts of Tamil Nadu still revolves around temples. Elephants and banana leaves are an essential part of the festivities and celebrations in the state. The elephant symbolises wisdom, strength, protection of the home, fertility, and good luck, and banana leaves are a sign of beauty and prosperity.


Round Boat
Round Boat is also called a Coracle. It is used for everything from fishing and transport to postal deliveries and poaching. The Coracle has designed to be carried o a person's back, with a strap holding the boat steady.


Airavatheeswara Temple at Darasuram
Built in the 12th Century CE by the Chola King Rajaraja Chola II, Darasuram Airavatesvara Temple is one among the three ancient temples that are collectively called the ‘Great Living Chola Temples’. Located in the Thanjavur district of Tamilnadu, it is a UNESCO heritage site and a brilliant example of Dravidian architecture.


Golden Period Of South
This artwork portrays the most glorious period of the Tamil Kings, spanning from the 14th to the 15th century AD. Their military prowess enabled them to conquer territories both within and beyond India, while their deep engagement in temple construction, art, and culture left a lasting impact.
At the centre, a king is depicted seated on an elephant, symbolising dominion over the land. To the viewer’s left, a temple and a group of Purohits highlight their significant role in the kingdom. On the right, a group of formidable soldiers stands guard, representing the protection of the land and its magnificent palaces. Three flags symbolise the three great dynasties—Chola, Pandya, and Pallava—while a large circle in the background represents the sun, a timeless emblem of glory.

Tamil Sangam
This work depicts a fascinating segment of Tamil culture known as Tamil Sangam, highlighting the deep love and respect for the Tamil language. It represents a collaborative gathering of scholars who guided the evolution of the language across different periods, making it a unique historical event. This visualisation presents how Tamil Sangam might have been during that time.

Natraj
While researching the history of the Chola, Pandya, and Pallava dynasties of Tamil Nadu for artistic inspiration, it became evident that the concept and depiction of the Great Nataraja were gifts of the Chola dynasty. This artistic representation of Nataraja’s mural captures that legacy. Surrounding it, a circular design incorporates patterns inspired by the Chola dynasty, symbolising their grandeur and sophistication in design and artistic vision.
